As part of an Interface Definition, Data Models define a common set of data structures specific to a protocol carried over the interface.
Generally Data Models represent an implementation of an Information Model.
Data described by a data model can be encoded in a number of different ways, such as XML, JSON, BER, etc. Several data modeling languages exist including XSD, YANG, SMIv2 MIB, etc.
Network management protocols, including NETCONF, RESTCONF, SNMP and others, provide the operations for acting on the data described by the data model, and carry the corresponding encoded data.
